Here is the transcript of a recent exchange of texts between myself (“L”) and a friend (“F”):

F – So how was your day?

L – Wonderful.  A student said that she was beginning to like herself, after years of trying to escape herself.

F – Cool.

L – This is what happens when people lay down their armor; they sense their own beauty.

F – That’s beautiful.

L – Yoga is an invitation to do that.

Yes, I thought, Yoga is an invitation to lay down the armor that we often don’t even recognize we are carrying.  The protective armor that ultimately isolates us from life itself and becomes an energy draining burden.  Yoga class is not just about stretching out and feeling a little better.  There is a qualitative shift that can happen in your experience of yourself, and it feels divine.   You are extended this invitation.
